Kim Malia Williams
Zumba, Solos, Solo Conditioning

Bio:

Born and raised in Walnut Creek, CA, Kim has had a passion for performing since she was a little girl. At the age of seven, her parents started her in classical piano and violin, which she continued throughout junior high. She also enjoyed singing at a young age, so her parents enrolled her into a performing group called, Dahlia’s Rising Stars at ten. Kim performed at various concerts and festivals and continued her music studies throughout college.
Kim discovered the art of Tahitian dance at eleven years of age. She studied most of the Polynesian dance styles including Tahitian, Hawaiian, Maori, Tongan and Samoan. Her original halau was under the direction of Lisa Aguilar and Rick Smith with Dances of the Pacific, now Te Mana O Te Ra. Within one year, Kim competed in her first Tahitian competition in 1990.
Her love and inspiration to learn more about the Tahitian culture pushed Kim to practice harder. She received her first solo award at the San Jose Tahiti Fete in 1993, where she took first place. Since then, she has competed in both solo and group competitions in Merced, Los Angeles, Reno, Pleasanton, Hayward, Las Vegas, Waikiki, Kauai, and Hilo. Kim has taken several awards including 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 3 overall places.
Kim danced with Te Mana O Te Ra for 18 years, and over the last few years she helped teach the children’s as well as the beginners through advanced classes. She also helped with choreography for many of their solo and group competitions, where they placed in otea, aparima, ahuroa and music.
In addition to her music and Polynesian dance background, Kim also dabbles in Salsa, Jazz and Hip-Hop. Kim likes to work out, snowboard, wakeboard and be adventurous. In 2000 – 2003, she was a professional NFL cheerleader for the Oakland Raiders. This was a lifetime opportunity which allowed her to not only dance at football games but sing the National Anthem, be in commercials, and take part in their own reality show, The Season featuring the Raiderettes. Fortunately, she was part of the team in 2003 during Super Bowl XXXVII.
In 2005, Kim played a Cat Scratch dancer in the musical movie, Rent with Rosario Dawson. She continued to sing and dance with the Bill Hopkins Rockin’ Orchestra and La Femme Panache, a burlesque dance group in San Francisco right before she moved to Las Vegas in 2007.
Kim recently received her certificate to teach Zumba, an aerobic class inspired by Latin dance. She continues to have a strong love for Polynesian dance and is blessed to be part of the Tevakanui family.
